JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) also plays an active role in increasing the value of investment in the country by attracting a number of potential industry players. One of the potential industries that is looked at is the electric cigarette business.
Director of the Beverage, Tobacco Products and Budgeting Materials Industry of the Ministry of Industry, Edy Sutopo, said that the potential for the electric cigarette business that continues to grow can be a great opportunity for cigarette manufacturers to inject their capital in the sector.
"There are several electric cigarette manufacturers who are interested in investing in Indonesia. To our knowledge, there are around 10 companies that are currently in the assessment stage," he said in Jakarta, Thursday, November 3.
The positive impact of this investment is believed to spur foreign exchange and employment so as to boost the national economy.
According to Edy, to date, there are 2.2 million users from other tobacco processing (HPTL), including e-cigarettes. The number increased by about 40 percent from the total user last year.
"With this rapid development, of course, the government needs to pay more attention," he added.
Later, said Edy, the Ministry of Industry will prepare arrangements and developments related to product quality according to the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) which continues to follow the development of technology, consumers, and regulations.
"The government also encourages the research and development of the new e-cigarette industry so that the products produced can be according to consumer standards and have a smaller impact on health," he added.
