Ahead Of G20 Summit, Six Companies Support Green Energy Through PLN's REC
NUSA DUA - PT PLN (Persero) continues to expand the use of clean energy by encouraging the use of New Renewable Energy (EBT) certificates or Renewable Energy Certificates (REC).
Ahead of the G20 Summit in Bali, PLN's REC was flooded with customers from the industrial sector.
Recently, PLN and six companies signed an REC Sale and Purchase Agreement with a total supply of 18.46 terawatt hours (TWh) of clean energy electricity on the sidelines of The Energy Transition Day event in Nusa Dua, Bali, Tuesday, November 1.
The six companies are PT Asahimas Chemical, PT Mitra Murni Perkasa, PT Bumi Suksesindo, PT United Tractors Tbk, PT Indokordsa, and PT Mitra Informatika Gemilang.
PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo appreciates the contribution of PLN customers who have supported the clean energy transition program by utilizing REC.
This is in line with Indonesia's commitment as the host of the G20 Presidency to reduce global carbon emissions.
"The collaboration signed today is also proof that more and more companies are moving towards a green industry by looking for sustainable and environmentally friendly energy sources," said Darmawan.
Darmawan admits that the presence of this REC service follows the development of its customers' needs in line with global demands for the use of EBT.
In the past, many companies had to buy EBT certificates abroad. So with PLN's REC, Darmawan hopes that the industrial sector can more easily access clean energy.
"REC is a service facility that can support customers in supporting their sustainable business. With this, we can together with the government achieve the target of net zero emission by 2060," explained Darmawan.
The convenience that PLN presents in using REC makes this green product more attractive to customers.
"Through REC, PLN presents a procurement option to meet the target of up to 100 percent of the use of renewable energy. The procurement or purchase method is relatively easy and fast," he said.
PLN also ensures that the energy used by customers comes from EBT-based power plants verified by an international tracking system, APX TIGRs, located in California, United States.
Currently, PLN's green energy plants registered with APX are the Kamojang Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP) with a capacity of 140 MW, the Lahendong PLTP 80 MW, and the Bakaru PLTA 130 MW, or equivalent to 2,500,000 MWh per year.
Customers who are located separately from the green energy generator may also enjoy REC services.
Customers can purchase PLN REC, both for individuals and corporations, through the website https://jasa.pln.co.id/renewable-energy-certificate.

President Director of PT Asahimas Chemical, Jun Miyazaki hopes that his company's involvement in the integrated basic chemical industry in the renewable energy program can support the government's program to expand renewable energy power plants in Indonesia.
“ASC has the honor to cooperate with PLN by signing a contract to purchase 18 million units of REC (equivalent to 18,000 GWh) in a period of approximately 15 years with a CO2 emission reduction target of 15 million tons. This is in line with Indonesia's net zero emission commitments in 2060 and Japan's AGC in 2050," said Miyazaki.
Previously, PLN noted that until September 2022, as many as 948,152 Megawatt hour (MWh) of renewable energy had been claimed by 233 companies.
