Extreme Weather Still Implementing, Puan Brings Preparedness Of Disaster Preparedness Infrastructure
JAKARTA - The extreme weather that has occurred in recent times has caused natural disasters in a number of areas. DPR Speaker Puan Maharani reminded the government to always be ready to face natural disasters that are still a threat.
"The government must ensure the readiness of disaster preparedness infrastructure, including human resources (human resources) from all relevant stakeholders in order to provide a quick rescue for the community," said Puan, Friday, October 21.
The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) noted that extreme weather that occurred over the past three weeks had resulted in 227 disasters dominated by wet hydrometeorological disasters such as floods and landslides.
Extreme weather is also expected to occur in a number of regions in Indonesia in the next 3 months. Puan said the threat of natural disasters must be anticipated as best as possible.
Several regions have imposed disaster emergency alert status. This must be accompanied by preparation of heavy equipment, rescue facilities, to the needs of disaster victims such as refugee camps and logistics," said the first woman to serve as Chair of the Indonesian House of Representatives.
Puan also reminded local governments whose areas are disaster-prone areas to increase mitigation. Especially areas that have geographical, geological, hydrological and demographic challenges that are not easy.
"The Disaster Management Task Force in disaster-prone areas must always stand by. Disaster preparedness posts must also be able to accommodate the needs of the community," said Puan.
Natural disasters due to extreme weather since early October have caused 33 people to die and several people have disappeared. Natural disasters also have a direct impact on tens of thousands of people. In fact, a number of residents were reported to have suffered from the disease after becoming victims of the flood.
"In addition to fulfilling food assistance, the medical team must be deployed to routinely check the health of disaster victims. This is important to do so that victims and refugees are not infected with disease," said Puan.
The former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture also asked the Government to ensure that sanitation and clean water needs for victims are met properly. Puan reminded that many residents find it difficult to get clean water due to floods and landslides in their area.
"The basic needs and safety of the community must be a priority," said Bung Karno's grandson of the Proclaimer of the Republic of Indonesia.
On the other hand, Puan appealed to the public to increase vigilance with the potential for extreme weather. In addition, residents are asked to be proactive in saving themselves if their area experiences signs of a disaster.
Always pay attention to the weather warning from the BMKG. Every family member must be alert to conditions in their respective homes. With preparedness, we hope to anticipate casualties when natural disasters occur," concluded Puan.
