Review Contented, Stressing Even Though The Ghost's Scene Is Only Little
JAKARTA - The film Connected by Korean director Kang Dong Hun is showing in Indonesian cinemas. Contented is a story about the terror of my house. All of this started with the move of Hyung Min (Kim Minjae)'s family to a remote place to find peace.
Strange incidents began to feel a few days before their move. The wife, Myung Hye (Seo Young Hee) always had a nightmare.
Not only that, Myung Hye's second child, Hee Woo (Kim Bo Min) saw a terrible appearance when he visited the funeral home. In fact, a psychic has warned him that something scary will happen to his family.
Both Myung Hye and Hee Woo decided not to talk about what they saw. Hyung Min bought a house that was far from the crowd at a very low price. Apart from being bankrupt, Hyung Min wants his wife's mental health condition to improve by living in a quiet place.
However, strange things have happened since they first set foot in the house. Myung Hye and Hee Woo both heard the sound of a blow coming from inside the house.
When conveying what was his anxiety, Hyung Min ignored and thought Myung Hye was just▁contohreast. This was exacerbated by Hee Woo who chose to remain silent, instead of justifying his mother's words.
Strange and terrible events are increasingly emerging. In fact, the family can no longer distinguish between dreams and reality.
What was even more surprising was the presence of a woman in a red shirt who was suddenly in the yard of her house. The woman gave an encouragement for Myung Hye to seek her own freedom, while being haunted by curiosity over the voices that kept bothering her.
Myung Hye believes this unnatural incident came from a locked warehouse. He also forcibly opened the door to find answers to his fear.
The warehouse apparently hides various mystical objects, including masks which then penetrates Myung Hye's soul and puts her family in danger.
Full of shocking scenes
Unlike most horror films that give rise to scary ghost faces, Contorted actually makes the audience surprised by the tense scenes, such as the sudden presence of someone or the corners of a house that has a scary atmosphere.
Quoted from ANTARA, Friday, October 21, the jumpscare scene, which is often presented intensely to this film, will make the audience feel uneasy from start to finish. Dark nuances or the cold nature of the characters, are able to increase tension. The director invited the audience to guess what really happened to the house, because it was not explained about its historical background. It didn't stop there, the twist of the story embedded in this film is also quite an added value for Contented.
Contented is based on a true story based on the best-selling horror novel in South Korea entitled The Contributed House. The novel won the Safehouse Horror Competition Prizes.
Family issues
If you look deeper, Contented is not just a horror film that makes you digitized. There are other issues raised, namely mental health problems. Myung Hye is said to be experiencing severe depression that requires medical assistance. Not only that, he also often permits something that comes from the past.
Unfortunately, his family and husband Hyung Min tend to be indifferent to the complaints conveyed by Myung Hye. This makes him very vulnerable to thinking about ending life.
This family is also described as minimal in communication and not open to each other so that it worsens the mental health suffered by the mother.
Myung Hye, who is tired of managing a household, an uncommunicative child and a husband who doesn't care about home affairs, becomes a complex problem in a family. Contented can be an alternative choice for film lovers who are looking for horror shows but don't want to see ghosts.
