Call Extremism In Surakarta Needs Special Handling, Gibran: The Instigator In Young Children's Activities Lho

SURAKARTA - The Surakarta City Government (Pemkot) is committed to tackling acts of extremism by involving many parties, from regional apparatus organizations to communities in the community.

"We want to reduce extremeism, this is very urgent, there is no other city yet," said Surakarta Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka at the launch of the 'Extremism Prevention Integrated Team in Loji Gandrung Solo, Central Java, quoted from Antara, Tuesday 11 October.

According to Gibran, the issue of extremism in Surakarta is different from other regions, so special handling is needed.

"The demography is like this, special handling is needed. The risk is high but can be overcome. The new intruders, you know, are in young people's activities," he said.

Regarding this activity, the Head of the National Unity and Political Agency of the Surakarta City Government, Indradi, said that the prevention of extremism was a follow-up to the mandate of Presidential Regulation Number 7 of 2021 concerning the National Action Plan for Prevention and Combating Violence-Based Extremeism that would lead to Terrorism in 2020-2024.

"There is a Decree from the Minister of Home Affairs to the regional head to follow up on the presidential regulation. Then the Minister of Home Affairs mandates prevention actions. Next, we will formulate, formulate what kind of agenda is concrete," he said.

Indradi added that several efforts, ranging from socialization, study, to collaboration between agencies and community components.

"There are regional apparatus, city government agencies, social forums, civil society audiences who care about the issue of diversity, including community organizations," he said.

He said that there would be recommendations as provisions to determine the next concrete steps.

"What can be done jointly in accordance with the role and authority in the field of prevention. It's not a downstream business, but upstream," he said.
