Anies Pamer The First River Spice Room In Indonesia, Observers: Uneffective To Overcome Floods

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan showcased the construction of an overflow of the river (RLS) as a breakthrough to control flooding. In response to this, urban planning observer from Trisakti University said it was not effective in dealing with flooding.

The RLS is located in three locations which are currently under construction, namely Brigif Reservoir, Lebak Bulus Reservoir and Pondok Ranggon Reservoir.

"The river overflow space is only temporary but it will not be too effective in overcoming flooding," said Nirwono when contacted, Friday, October 7.

According to Nirwono, it is better for the DKI Provincial Government to fix rivers and revitalize setu, lakes, reservoirs, and reservoirs to overcome flooding from upstream.

Then, it is also necessary to rehabilitate waterways tofu drainage and expand green open spaces or green open spaces as water catchment areas to overcome local flooding. Including restoration of coastal areas, and reforestation of mangrove forests to overcome tidal flooding.

"It is better for the DKI Provincial Government not to make too many new programs in dealing with floods. Just focus on handling the floods that I mean," explained Nirwono.

Previously, Anies explained that Jakarta now has a temporary parking lot to accommodate the first natural-based river water supply in Indonesia. It is hoped that this place will be able to reduce the burden on downstream areas when it rains.

"We now have a new approach where the temporary water parking space when the river has abundant water to reduce the burden on the downstream area because the water is stored in an area close to upstream," said Anies at Brigif Reservoir, Jagakarsa, Jakarta, Thursday, October 6.

He also said that the problem of river water overflow was triggered, one of which was because of the development that had occurred in the last few decades, so a natural-based approach was needed to deal with it.

According to him, in Indonesia there has been no project that prioritizes natural-based solutions to deal with overflowing river water when high water discharge is due to rainfall factors.

"What is based on nature has been implemented in various countries, Indonesia has not. But Alhamdulillah, this project marks the first natural-based project to solve the problem of river water overflow," said Anies.

Anies named the parking lot for the overflow of river water as an abundant space for rivers or RLS.

Given that there is no similar project in the country, Anies sent a team to study in Singapore and the Netherlands for river water control projects during the rainy season.

"Indonesia is not the first, we refer to the experience because today we specifically invited the Singapore Ambassador to attend because we saw what was being done in Kallang River," said Anies.
