Malang Stadium Tragedy: President Jokowi Asks PSSI Evaluation, Persib Vs Persija Match Postponed
JAKARTA - The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi) spoke about the tragedy of the Malang Regency Office Stadium in the Arema FC vs Persebaya match which resulted in the death of hundreds of people, Saturday night, October 1.
Jokowi asked the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora), Zainudin Amali, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo and General Chair of the All-Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Iwan Bule to evaluate thoroughly both implementation or security. The goal is to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
"I have also ordered the Minister of Youth and Sports, the National Police Chief and the PSSI General Chair to conduct a thorough evaluation of the implementation of football and its management security procedures," Jokowi said in a press release, Sunday, October 3.
In addition, he also asked PSSI to postpone Liga 1 2022-2023. In order to evaluate this case thoroughly.
"For that I also ordered PSSI to temporarily stop Liga 1," he said.
As is known, in the aftermath of the 2022-2023 Indonesian League 1 postponement, all matches in Indonesian football competitions had to be postponed.
This also has an impact in prestigious matches in Indonesia, namely Persib versus Persija, which is planned to be held at the Gelora Stadium in Bandung, Sea of Fire, West Java, Sunday, October 2, 2022.
