Amsterdam Movie Cast, Christian Bale And Margot Robbie Have Fun Together
JAKARTA - Christian Bale and Margot Robbie share impressions and stories behind the film Amsterdam. Margot Robbie, who plays Valerie, revealed that it took a long time to prepare for the character.
"I have had a long time to prepare Valerie. Longer than I have ever done to prepare a character. Not only because David (O. Russel) is very collaborative, but in general, also because of the COVID-19 condition that limits mobility," said Robbie as quoted from ANTARA, Wednesday, September 28.
"So I had a long time to prepare Valerie. Maybe a little too long, to be honest. But, in the end, I fell in love with her, for all her qualities and friendships with Harold and Burt, who were everything to her."
Director David O. Russell and actor Christian Bale agree that the film's roots are about the friendship of three different people. According to Russell, a strong character is the main key to driving this story.
"Christian and I were very interested in making original characters that we wanted to have fun with -- original characters, characters we've never seen before, either from Margot (Robbie), or John David (Washington), or anyone from those people before. And that's where this story begins," said the director.
Furthermore, Russel hopes that these unique characters can eventually create an epic story, fun to follow, and able to highlight some historical aspects that also inspired this film.
Russel continued, the process of making the Amsterdam story that he did with Bale had begun for approximately five years.
"It feels good to meet (Bale) a few times a week. You know, as a writer, it's nice to be able to talk to friends, colleagues, or collaborators to grow (the story) together," said the director of "Silver Lining Playbook" (2012).
"I was involved with him for five, six years. But I felt like, you know, it's a lifelong effort that I've put in the effort to do this film," Bale said.

On the other hand, John David Washington added, the friendship of the three figures was carried over in the Amsterdam set.
"The cornerstone of this set is humility and optimism. It was the easy way, when we started out there with love and respect for one another. There was no ego that I felt on set," Washington said.
Meanwhile, Amsterdam will soon appear in Indonesian cinemas this year. Russell's latest film also stars Chris Rock, Anya Taylor-Joy, Zoe Saldaña, Mike Myers, Michael Shannon, Timothy Olyphant, Andrea Riseborough, Taylor Swift, Matthias Schoenaerts, Alessandro Nivola, Rami Malek, and Robert De Niro.
