DPR Sahkan UU Perlindungan Data Pribadi!
JAKARTA - The parliament has officially ratified the Draft Law (RUU) on Personal Data Protection (PDP) into Law (UU) at the 5th Plenary Meeting of the First Session Period of the 2022-2023 Session Year, Tuesday, September 20.
"We will ask each faction whether the Bill on Personal Data Protection can be approved to be passed into law?" asked Deputy Speaker of the DPR Lodewijk F Paulus followed by member approval.
There was no vote of rejection and interruption regarding the ratification of this PDP Law. Lodewijk then knocked the court hammer, the sign of the PDP Bill has been passed.
"Thank you," said Lodewijk after knocking out the hammer to sign the agreement.
Previously, the Chairperson of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, hoped that the new policy would protect every citizen from all forms of misuse of personal data.
"The ratification of the PDP Bill will be a milestone for Indonesia in protecting the personal data of its citizens from all forms of crime in today's digital era," said Puan in her statement, Tuesday, September 20.
The final script for the PDP Bill, which has been discussed since 2016, consists of 371 lists of Investorizations and even 16 Chapters and 76 articles. The number of articles in the PDP Bill increased by 4 articles from the government's initial proposal at the end of 2019, namely 72 articles.
This PDP Bill will provide legal certainty so that every citizen, without exception, has sovereignty over his personal data. Thus, there will be no more people's cries due to online loans that they do not ask for, or doxing that makes it disturbing to residents," said Puan.
Puan also hopes that the Government will quickly enact the PDP Bill after it is passed today. Thus, said Puan, the derivative rules include the formation of a supervisory agency that will protect people's personal data will be quickly realized.
"Through the PDP Law, the state will guarantee the people's right to the security of their personal data," said Puan.
The chairman of the PDIP DPP said that the PDP Bill would be a guide for relevant ministries/agencies and stakeholders in maintaining the health of Indonesia's digital security climate. Puan also appreciated the Government's cooperation in drafting the PDP Bill with the DPR.
"On behalf of the DPR leadership, I also thank the experts and all elements of the nation who have contributed to providing input so that the PDP Bill can become a good legal product," he said.
"It is the duty of the State to provide protection to its people in any aspect, including personal data protection," continued Puan.
