Jokowi's Electric Car Policy Praised By Public Policy Experts, Can Reduce Fuel Addiction Meters

JAKARTA - Public policy expert Trubus Rahadiansyah said President Jokowi's policy regarding the use of electric cars could reduce dependence on fuel oil.

"In my opinion, a good policy in terms of reducing fuel dependence so far, policy logic is good," Trubus said in a statement in Jakarta, Saturday, September 17.

The government issued a policy through Presidential Instruction (Inpres) Number 7 of 2022 concerning Battery-Based Electric Motor Vehicles as operational service vehicles and or individual official vehicles for central government agencies and local governments.

Through this Presidential Instruction, President Jokowi is committed to implementing the energy transition from fossil sources to new and renewable energy to reduce carbon emissions and save the earth from the threat of climate change.

Trubus hopes that in addition to the instructions for using electric cars as official vehicles, the government will also be encouraged to prepare supporting infrastructure, such as charging stations for electric cars.

So far, he said, public electric vehicle charging stations (SPKLU) in Indonesia are still relatively minimal, only in big cities. This must be considered by the government because the use of electric cars which will also be used by local governments.

According to him, the infrastructure related to the filling should have been prepared from the start considering that it is currently only available in big cities and in several shopping centers.

"Then how about in the regions, it's not necessarily there," he said, quoted from ANTARA.

Trubus added that collaboration between the central and regional governments is needed to implement this policy, as well as regions that already use electric vehicles must be given incentives to encourage this implementation.

"So, in my opinion, how the central government and local governments collaborate in a synergistic manner to implement the policy, so the president does not only order, they must also encourage the regions by providing policies, for example, the regions are given incentives to encourage the electricity industry," Trubus explained.
