YOGYAKARTA Indonesia will host the 2022 World Wushu Junior Championship (WJWC). The sports competition was held by the International Wushu Federation (IWUF).

IWUF is planned to take place at ICE, BSD, Tangerang, Banten on December 2 to 11, 2022. The championship is the second time it has been held in Indonesia.

Quoted from Antara, the Executive Director of WJWC 2022 Gunawan Tjokro explained that a similar event was held in 2008 in Bali. The choice of Indonesia as the host is because Indonesia's achievements in the world stage are quite calculated.

"Indonesia's wushu achievements at the international level are taken into account. We have also and succeeded in holding similar events before," said Gunawan Tjokro at a press conference at Wisma AKR, Jakarta, Tuesday.

Gunawan said that Indonesia is targeting two things related to this event, in terms of events and achievements.

"We want every participant who comes home with a sweet impression. Then our athletes also have success in winning medals at the Junior World Championships," he continued.

Currently, at least 46 countries have registered. The number of participants is targeted to continue to grow ahead of WJWC 2022

"With a relatively long time ahead of implementation. We think many more countries will register. Our target is to break the record for the number of participants, which is to be followed by 70 countries," he said.

In the 2022 Junior Wushu World Championships, the participants will compete for a number of junior categories for men and women, sanda and taolu numbers for both men and women.

Gunawan himself is optimistic that he will be able to maximize Indonesia's status as the host. In addition, he also saw that the Wushu sport experienced rapid development and equal competition.

"To be able to compete, we must provide guidance to athletes from an early age as a nursery," said Gunawan Tjokro.

Secretary General of the Indonesian Wushu Executive Board (PBWI) Ngatino explained that Indonesia would prepare 28 athletes from the Regional Championships (Kejurda).

"The results of the 28 athletes are not yet final. Waiting for the results of the National Championship (Kejurnas) and the final stage taulo in Surabaya and the September 17-22 Presidential Cup. After that, we were selected by athletes and selected," explained Ngatino.

On the same occasion, the committee also launched the logo and mascot of the 2022 World Championships of Wushu Junior. There are two parts of the logo that symbolizes boys and Java rhinos.

The boy symbolizes a gunshu, one of the wushu moves in which the child plays with a toya stance. While the arch symbolizes a Java rhino or also known as a sunda rhino or one-ranked rhino, which can only be found in Ujung Kulon National Park, Banten Province.

In an implicit way, this form is a number of the eighth championship as well as a symbol of survival which means sustainable and unity. While the colors of green to yellow gratuities symbolize youth, freshness, and glory.

On the same occasion, PBWI also launched the mascot of The 8th World Junior Wushu Championship Indonesia 2022 called Wolu.
