Microsoft's Acquisition Of Activision Blizzard Faces Anti-competitive Investigations From British Authority

One of them, the Microsoft Corp deal to purchase videogame publisher Activision Blizzard is expected to face an in-depth investigation from UK authorities after the software maker did not offer any solution to ease competition concerns.

According to the Financial Times, on Wednesday, September 13, Microsoft chose not to offer any solution to the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) at this stage because there is no clear commitment that UK regulators are likely to accept, citing people familiar with the matter.

The CMA said earlier this month that the takeover of the "Call of Duty" maker could undermine competition on game consoles, subscription services, and cloud games if Microsoft refuses to give competitors access to Activision's best-selling games.

Microsoft and Activision did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Reuters, while CMA declined to respond to the report.

The EU investigation could take time to examine the deal, which is also facing an in-depth investigation in Brussels, due to its size and growing concerns from competitors, including Sony.
