TASIKMALAYA - Tasikmalaya Police, West Java arrested two youths who were reported by the public for molesting a number of long-tailed and slow-tailed monkeys. Both must now be responsible for carrying out the legal process."We arrested two suspects, each with the initials AY and I, the two suspects domiciled in the Tasikmalaya Regency area, the suspect abused protected animals," said Tasikmalaya Police Chief AKBP Suhardi Hery Heryanto during a press conference in Tasikmalaya, Antara, Tuesday, September 13.The two suspects are residents of Cikatomas Subdistrict, namely AY (25) and I (25). Both were arrested after reports from the public.The persecution, said the Police Chief, was carried out by the suspect in a sadistic way, such as slashing parts of the animal's body using a knife and cutting the ears of the animal he had been doing since the past four months.Based on the suspect's confession, there were five long-tailed and slow-tailed monkeys that were used as objects of persecution, some even died."We also secured evidence in the form of a long-tailed monkey and a lotung, besides that, photos and videos of persecution were also secured," he said.The police chief said that the suspect's confession of molesting the animal was aimed at video content which was then sold on social media.The content of the abuse he made, he said, was also based on the demand of the audience, from the sale on social media the suspect made a profit."Some of their content is sadistic about animals, so how can the content be watched and there is a demand, because from there they get money," he said.The police chief said the case was still under development to find out more about the purpose of the persecution, including the amount of profit in showing the video obtained by the suspect.The two suspects are currently languishing in the Tasikmalaya Police detention cell for legal proceedings.Both were charged with Article 40 in conjunction with Article 21 of Law Number 5 of 1990 concerning Biological Natural Resources and Ecosystems, as well as Article 91 of Law Number 41 of 2014 concerning Livestock and Animal Health with a threat of 5 years in prison and a fine of Rp. 100 million.
