Although Still Rp598.2 Trillion In Nominal Terms, The Fiscal Defisit Returned To 2.84 Percent In The Discussion Of The 2023 State Budget Bill

JAKARTA - The government through the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) stated that in the latest calculation, the projected deficit for the 2023 State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN) was declared to have decreased to 2.84 percent from the previous 2.85 percent.

Head of the Fiscal Policy Agency (BKF) of the Ministry of Finance, Febrio Kacaribu, said that this condition occurred because the estimated gross domestic product (GDP) next year experienced an increase.

According to Febrio, the 2023 period is the first year of the APBN returning to the deficit principle of a maximum of 3 percent. Previously, the APBN difference room had been widened since 2020 with the aim of overcoming the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Febrio detailed that the fiscal deficit in 2020 was recorded at 6.14 percent of GDP. Then for the 2021 period it is stated at 4.57 percent of GDP and in the 2022 outlook it is believed that the deficit will be at the level of 3.92 percent of GDP.

The government will consolidate fiscally by directing the deficit to return to a maximum of 3 percent of GDP in 2023. We will also carry out comprehensive fiscal reforms to maintain a healthy APBN sustainability in the long term," he stressed.

For information, in the 2023 State Budget Bill, it is known that the value of next year's state expenditure is IDR 3,041.7 trillion. Meanwhile, the revenue target is believed to reach IDR 2,443.6 trillion. This figure then resulted in a budget deficit of IDR 598.2 trillion or 2.84 percent of GDP based on the latest calculation.
