Film Collectors Wins Box Office In South Korea Despite Increasing COVID-19 Cases
JAKARTA - The Collectors film received a box office title in South Korea even though the country was being hit by the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Launching Variety on November 23, the film earned US $ 10 million according to Korean Film Council records. This record beat the film Samjin Company English Class which won the box office last week.
Collectors, which was released on November 4, tells of a group of expert robbers who try to dig up a hiding place. Three of the characters have expertise in robbing.
This film stars Lee Je Hoon, Shin Hye Sun, Im Won Hee, and Jo Woo Jin. Interestingly, this film became popular thanks to the audience's word of mouth. The positive reviews given have made people start visiting theaters.
The situation of cinemas in South Korea also implements a health protocol where they only open half their normal capacity. Last week, Korean cinema chain Lotte announced it would close 20 branches due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the same time, the increase in cases in the Seoul area began to increase and made a number of business sectors in the entertainment world have to adapt. Currently, the warning has reached Level 1.5 so cinema seats must be spaced every seat.
If the level rises to Level 2, the reduction in cinema seat capacity must increase.
