Why Crypto.Com, Should Send Rp100 Thousand, But Instead Transfer Rp106 Billion To Customers
JAKARTA The crypto company that sponsors the Los Angeles Lakers Arena and makes Matt Damon its icon, Crypto.com, accidentally transferred funds of 10.5 million Australians (Rp 106.8 billion) to one of its customers in Australia. In fact, they only need to spend 100 Australian dollars (Rp100 thousand) because of a very unfortunate typ.
This ridiculous little news emerged from the Australian media, 7News, who even said the crypto exchange company did not see the error until seven months later. After learning that there was a mistake, now part of the wrong money for shipping has disappeared.
The initial transfer occurred in May 2021 after an employee accidentally typed an account number in the column of the payment amount. Crypto.com only realized his mistake when conducting an audit in December 2021.
Instead of reporting the wrong refund to Crypto.com, the customer concerned, Thevamanogari Manivel, reportedly transferred cash to a shared account and spent $1.3 million to buy a luxury house with five bedrooms for her sister.
Now the company is struggling to get money back with a lawsuit filed at the Victoria Supreme Court. As The Guardian noted, Crypto.com now managed to freeze Manivel's account in February.
The court also ordered Manivel to sell the house and return the money with interest to a place of exchange. The case will continue in court this October, and Crypto.com declined to comment on the situation.
While currently Crypto cold season isn't the only reason crypto exchange companies have lost money lately. There are some elemental errors that accidentally are also real threats.
Earlier this week, Solana-based exchange-decentralized OptiFi evaporated US$661,000 after developers accidentally shut down all programs that power exchanges using fatal "solana program close" commands. Now, the crypto exchange company is asking for warning messages while using the prompt to prevent similar situations in the future.
