PLN: Company Energy Bauran Composition Has Achieved 12.6 Percent

JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) stated that the composition of the new renewable energy mix in power plants managed by the company has reached 12.6 percent until the first half of 2022."Until July 2022, the energy mix is 12.6 percent. We have to achieve the target this year of 12.7 percent and we still have a gap to reach the energy mix of 23 percent by 2025," said Executive Vice President of Planning and Engineering for New Energy Renewable PLN Cita Dewi in a parallel G20 agenda entitled Energy Transition Project Facilitation Day which was monitored in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Wednesday, August 31.Cita said that the Indonesian government strongly supports the acceleration of the domestic energy mix which is in line with the National Energy Policy (KEN) and the General National Energy Plan (RUEN).As a state-owned company, he continued, PLN has a responsibility to increase the energy mix and prepare a roadmap for the energy transition to support Indonesia in realizing a carbon neutral target by 2060.PLN has prepared a strategy not only in terms of supply or supply, but also in terms of demand or demand to implement the roadmap for the energy transition. In terms of demand, the company has prepared short-term steps until 2030 and long-term until 2060."For 2030, we already have several programs in line with the Electric Power Supply Business Plan (RUPTL) that the government issued at the end of last year," said Cita.Based on the RUPTL, PLN targets the construction of new renewable energy plants to reach 51.6 percent or 20.93 gigawatts with details of 10.4 gigawatts of hydro, 3.4 gigawatts of geothermal power plants, 4.7 gigawatt solar power plants, and 2.5 gigawatts of other renewable energy by 2030.The company also runs a conversion program for diesel power plants (PLTD) to new and renewable energy with a total of 499 megawatts which will reduce the use of fuel by 67 thousand kiloliters, reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 0.3 tons, and increase the energy mix by 0.15 percent.Currently, PLN has 5,200 diesel power plants spread over 2,130 locations in Indonesia with a total conversion of 1,873 megawatts. In addition, the company is also developing biomass for coal-fired PLTU in order to reduce carbon emissions from power plants."Indonesia has a lot of potential energy resources, one of which is biomass (co-firing) which will be implemented in order to increase new and renewable energy by 2025 with a contribution of 3 percent," said Cita.Furthermore, he said that PLN cannot work alone in realizing the energy transition program and achieving the carbon neutrality target by 2060. Therefore, PLN requires support from both the government, stakeholders, and buyers. In terms of demand, PLN has issued a renewable energy certificate or REC which is proof of ownership of an international standard certificate for the production of electricity from renewable energy plants. There are also other programs in terms of demand to encourage the electric vehicle ecosystem through the preparation of adequate vehicle battery charging infrastructure in many regions in Indonesia.
