Japan Open 2022: Gregoria Gets Through First Half Easily
JAKARTA - Indonesian women's singles Gregoria Mariska Tunjung passed the first round of the 2022 Japan Open very easily. She only played 21 minutes to beat German representative Yvonne Li.
Gregoria Mariska won two straight games, 21-9 and 21-7 at Maruzen Arena, Osaka, Japan, on Tuesday, August 30. This victory saw Gregoria sharpen its winning record over Yvonne Li to 3-0.
Previously Gregoria also always won easily over Yvonne when they met at the Thailand Open 2020 and Uber Cup the same year.
Furthermore, the best Indonesian women's singles will face Pai Yu Po. This Taiwanese representative qualified for the second round after defeating Belgian representative Lianne Tan.
Gregoria is one of four Indonesian representatives to advance to the second round today. The first pair to qualify was Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti.
Then the men's doubles Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo and Bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri.
Unfortunately, the success of Gregoria and three other representatives could not be followed by the mixed doubles of Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Lisa Ayu Kusumawati.
The pair immediately stopped in the first half after losing three straight games to Malaysian representatives Goh Soon Huat/Lai Shevon Jemie.
