Legal Experts Call The Proposal For The Revising Of The Police Law On The Case Of Ferdy Sambo Emotions And Not Objective
JAKARTA - Police law expert from Bhayangkara University Jakarta, Edi Hasibuan, said that the revision of Law Number 2 of 2002 concerning Police has not been urgent because it still fits the current condition of the community."We see that the revision of the Law on the Police has not been urgent to be discussed in the 2023 national legislation program. The current Police Law has not been needed for revision," said Edi in a written statement in Jakarta, Antara, Sunday, August 28.If there is a proposed revision due to the Ferdy Sambo case or the reason to strengthen the National Police Commission (Kompolnas), he said, the proposal would be emotional and less objective."The proposed revision of the law usually has to be based on a thorough evaluation. If only because of the Ferdy Sambo case involved in planning the revision of the law, it is very dangerous," he said.If other reasons are to strengthen the National Police Commission (Kompolnas), according to him, then the method is not to revise the Police Law."The easiest and fastest solution is to revise Presidential Regulation Number 17 of 2011 concerning National Police Commissioners," said the former member of the National Police Commission.According to him, the authority that Kompolnas currently has is not strong enough because it only receives public complaints, collects data, then makes recommendations.Previously, the proposed revision of the National Police Law was submitted by the Secretary of the PPP faction of the DPR RI, Achmad Baidowi. He proposed a limited revision of Law Number 2 of 2002 concerning the Police. He explained that the Police Law was 20 years old, so it was time for a limited revision to the goal of adjusting to the social, cultural and legal dynamics in society.
