There Is No Prohibition On Presidential Discourse For 3 Periods, Jokowi: Wong There Are Those Who Talk About Replacing The President, Right? It's Also Okay

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) revealed that he did not prohibit the discourse of extending the term of office of the head of state to three terms.

Jokowi conveyed this when giving a speech at the Indonesian People's Consultative Body (Musra) which was held in Bandung, West Java (Jabar) on Sunday, August 28.

"That's the discourse stage, right. It's okay for people to express opinions," said Jokowi

According to him, the constitution has kept its citizens free of opinion. For the reason that democracy is also Jokowi admitted that so far it has not prohibited those who asked him to resign from holding the presidency.

"People who talk, it's okay to change the president, Jokowi resigns, right. This is a democratic country," he continued.

However, Jokowi ensured that he would obey the constitution on the discourse of a three-term period. The constitution only allows a person to serve as president for a maximum of two terms.

On the same occasion, Jokowi reminded not to express opinions or aspirations in anarchic manner. Including not being in a hurry to make political choices, he said, because choosing a leader requires caution.

"I entrust it again, be careful, be careful, the actions of the teacher gusuh (hurry), don't rush, do something wrong (wrong), don't make the wrong attitude," he said.

As is known, based on Antara's report, post-reformation, there have been four amendments to the 1945 Constitution by the MPR, including Article 7 of the 1945 Constitution which regulates the term of office of the president and vice president.

The amendment to Article 7 of the 1945 Constitution occurred at the MPR General Session in Jakarta on October 14-21, 1999. As a result, there were slight changes to articles 7 and several additions which included articles 7A, 7B, and 7C, so that after the amendment the maximum term of office of the president and vice president could only be held for two consecutive terms by the same president.
