Inactive Chancellor Karomani Entangled In Corruption, Plt Unila Ensures The Tri Dharma Program Continues

LAMPUNG - Acting Chancellor of the University of Lampung (Unila) Mohammad Sofwan Effendi ensured that the Tri Dharma College programs on this campus would continue to run and not be affected by the case that ensnared the inactive Unila Chancellor, Karomani.

"The most important thing now is to ensure that educational programs must run and not be disturbed or affected by the bribery case for new student admissions which is being handled by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK)," said Mohammad Sofwan Effendi in Bandarlampung, Antara, Friday, 26 August.

He said he would continue to oversee all the programs that had been set by Unila from the start, because this campus also had to pursue the Main Work Index (KPI) of Higher Education.

"It can be seen from how graduates, student learning goes, then how the curriculum learning process is good, how the strengthening of lecturers continues," he said.

Then regarding the signature on the graduate diploma, the Director of Resources at the Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) said he still did not know whether he was allowed to sign it or not.

"Later I will coordinate with the Chair of the Senate. If the Plt is allowed to sign the diploma, it will be carried out, but if later there are other regulations, it will be signed by the elected Chancellor," he said.

He also said that Unila had democratically elected the Substitute Unila Senate Chair for the 2022-2023 time period, who would carry out the mandate until April 2023.

"Professor of Mathematics FMIPA, University of Lampung, Prof. Dr. La Zakaria, S.Si., M.Sc, is now the Chair of the Senate, he was elected democratically with the presence of 34 members and it is already a quorum," he said.

Known Prof.Dr. La Zakaria, S.Si., M.Sc, became the Chair of the Senate replacing Dr (CAN) Muhammad Basri, the previous Chairperson of the Unila Senate who had the status of a corruption suspect along with the inactive Unila Chancellor Karomani and Vice Chancellor I Heryandi.

The KPK has named four suspects in the new student admissions case. The recipients were the Chancellor of Unila Karomani (KRM) together with the Vice Chancellor I for Academic Affairs Unila Heryandi (HY) and the Chair of the Unila Senate Muhammad Basri (MB). While the giver is a private party, namely AD or Andi Desfiandi.

In the construction of the case, the KPK explained that KRM, who served as Chancellor of Unila for the 2020-2024 period, had the authority, one of which was related to the implementation mechanism, namely the Independent Selection to Enter the University of Lampung (Simanila) for the 2022 Academic Year.

During the Simanila process, the KPK suspected that KRM was active to be directly involved in determining the graduation of the Simanila participants by ordering HY and Budi Sutomo and involving MB to participate in personal selection regarding the abilities of prospective students' parents.

If you want to be declared passed, you can be assisted by submitting a certain amount of money, in addition to the official money paid according to the mechanism determined by the university.

In addition, KRM is also suspected of giving special roles and tasks to HY, MB and the Head of the Planning and Public Relations Bureau of Unila Budi Sutomo to collect an amount of money that was agreed with the parents of the selection participants who had previously passed based on the assessment that had been arranged by KRM.

As for the nominal amount of money agreed between the KRM, it is suspected that the amount varies with a minimum range of Rp. 100 million to Rp. 350 million for each parent of the selection participants who want to graduate.
