Don't Worry, Exercise Doesn't Cause A Heart Attack
JAKARTA - Many people think that exercising too hard can cause a heart attack. Heart and Blood Vessel Specialist Dr. Vito A. Damay, SpJP(K), M.Kes., AIFO-K, FIHA, FICA, FAsCC emphasized that exercise does not cause a person to have a heart attack.
“Sometimes people say something like, 'I'm afraid the sports dock is too hard. It's going to be a heart attack'. I said, what sport have you been doing all this time?" Vito said, quoted from ANTARA, Saturday, August 20.
Some people, said Vito, exercise in the morning, even that is rarely done and they are afraid to exercise more intensity for fear of a heart attack. "Our hearts are very strong," he said.
So, according to Vito, the heart actually has a strong ability. However, what makes a person collapse when cycling, for example, is because they do not realize that there has actually been a problem with their heart before.
“What kind of sport do we want to do, actually the limit is very far. But why do people suddenly collapse because of cycling? One because he didn't know that he had a heart problem before, "explained Vito.
Second, the person experiencing the attack had never had a check-up before. So, he didn't know his heart, "the engine", had only one left and so on, so he finally collapsed in the middle of the road. "Not because it's too hard to exercise," he added.
Vito said, if someone trains the ability of the heart, then it can maximize the performance of the heart. Therefore, people need not be afraid to exercise and train their heart.
"If we train the heart rate, what is called a healthy heart rate is that 70 percent of the maximum heart rate is a benefit, meaning that the benefits for the heart are very high," said Vito.

"Can it be more than that? It's okay if for example you are an athlete and you are a trained person. But the way of training is not to buy a bicycle today, tomorrow you become a member of the bicycle club and you want to ride a bicycle up to 70 km," he continued.
However, Vito recommends people to train their heart in the right way. So, things that are not desirable can be avoided.
"So the way that is not right, the way that is not right is what causes unwanted things to happen," he concluded.
