Belitung Expected Domino Effect When G20 Delegation Goes To Island Hopping

JAKARTA - The Belitung Regency Government, Bangka Belitung Islands, has prepared a "hopping island" tour package for the delegates of the G20 Development Ministerial meeting in the area on 7-9 September.

"A visit to a 'site visit' site is certain for delegates and indeed we have prepared a 'hopping island' package activity to entertain G20 guests," said Secretary of the Belitung Tourism Office Annyta in Tanjung Pandan, Tuesday, August 16.

Hopping Island is a tour around and visiting a group of small islands in the waters around Tanjung Kelayang such as Lengkuas Island, Kelayang Island, Batu Berlayar Island, Sand Island.

Through the "hopping island" tour, his party wanted to show the delegates about the unique granite rock formations in Belitung which is now recognized by UNESCO as the Belitong Unesco Global Geopark (UGG).

"Including, we want to show the beauty of Belitung's sea and underwater biota, whose sustainability is still maintained to this day," he said, quoted from Antara.

He added that his party was continuing to finalize the "hopping island" preparations for the G20 delegates later.

"We are continuing to prepare it like tourist boats at this time we are also being beautified which will later be used by the delegates," he said.

According to him, apart from that, his party will also promote a number of "geosites" in the area to the "geosite" delegates such as Tanjung Kelayang, Bukit Peramun, Jungle Nature, Open Pit Nam Salu, Burong Mandi and Pulau Bukulimau.

"Friends from tourism actors in Belitung will also sell this tour package to the delegates," he said.

He said that his party also offered to the delegates to visit Langer Island, which has ancient mangrove forests.

"But to get there it takes about 1.5 hours," he said.

He hoped that the G20 delegates would have a good impression during their tour in Belitung and tell the beauty of Belitung when they went to their respective countries.

"After the G20, we have confirmed that there will be other international conventions in Belitung. We hope that in the future Belitung will become a suitable city for international MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions)," he said.
