The Minister Of Home Affairs Ensures That The Acting Governors Of 3 New Papua Provinces Are Neutral

JAYAPURA - The Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian assessed that it was appropriate to place a neutral person to fill the governor's caretaker position in the three new provinces in Papua.

"There are those who think that the position should be filled by native Papuans. However, there are also those who say they will compete in the 2024 Regional Head Elections," said Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian in Jayapura as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, August 13.

Therefore, his party took a neutral person so that the general election in 2024 could run smoothly.

"Because of several considerations, the acting caretaker should be a neutral person," he said.

Touching on the aspiration to fill the governor's caretaker in the three new provinces, the Minister of Home Affairs said the aspiration exists. However, it must be remembered that this is not in the Special Autonomy Law.

With five months remaining, said Tito, his party still has the opportunity to find the governor's caretaker.

"In principle, whoever is in charge later, must be able to run or lay the foundations for becoming a province," he said.

The Minister of Home Affairs then emphasized, "The point is that the official or caretaker must be neutral during the election."
