Abrasion In The North Penajam Paser Coastal Area Is Increasingly Worrying, The Regency Government Asks For Central Assistance
PENAJAM - The government of North Penajam Paser Regency, East Kalimantan asked the central government for assistance to deal with coastal erosion (abrasion) in coastal areas in areas that are getting worse.
"We have coordinated with the center and the province to prevent abrasion from getting worse," said the Head of the North Penajam Paser Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Marjani in Penajam, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, August 9.
The central government and provincial governments are expected to immediately review and technically make abrasion barriers, so as to reduce erosion or beach erosion that is getting worse.
The BPBD of North Penajam Paser Regency has submitted a proposal to the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) for handling abrasion, but has not yet received a response.
The current gabion or abrasion barrier is aid sourced from the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget or APBN through BNPB.
"The proposal for repairing gabions and continuing construction along the coast has been submitted, but has not yet been responded to," he explained.
Coastal erosion in these coastal areas requires serious and fast handling, because the impact makes the coastline with settlements closer.
Strategic economic areas such as rice fields, plantations, aquaculture and tourism beaches must be protected from abrasion
Erosion or coastal erosion occurs due to waves and ocean currents (tidal waters) that damage the coastline.
The North Penajam Paser Regency Government is also trying to overcome coastal erosion naturally by planting mangroves.
"Abrasion handling requires a large budget, so assistance from the central and provincial governments is needed," said Marjani.
