Police Name 9 Suspects Of Riots In Mulyorejo Village, Jember
JEMBER - The police have named nine people as suspects in the riot that burned a number of houses and vehicles of residents in one of the hamlets in Mulyorejo Village, Jember Regency, East Java.
"We have detained 15 people and nine of them have been confirmed as suspects, one of which is the driver or provocateur in the riots, namely J (55) a resident of Banyuwanyar Village, Kalibaru District, Banyuwangi Regency," said Jember Police Chief, AKBP Hery Purnomo, as quoted by ANTARA. , Saturday, August 6th.
According to him, dozens of people suspected of being the perpetrators of the riots in Padukuhan Statuerejo and Dampikrejo, East Baban Hamlet, Mulyorejo Village, Silo District came from Kalibaru District, Banyuwangi Regency, and only one person from Sampang Regency, Madura Island.
"Of the 15 people who were detained, nine people were named suspects and six of them were witnesses, so that after giving information to investigators, the six people will be sent back to their homes," he said.
The nine suspects who have been named as suspects are JN, a resident of Banyuanyar Village, Kalibaru District who played a role in provoking residents, S (39) a resident of Kalibaru Manis Village-Kalibaru District who was in charge of burning Ali's house and destroying other houses, M (42) a resident of East Tobai Village - Sokabanah Subdistrict, Sampang Madura Regency, which burned Salam's house.
Then A (45) a resident of Banyuanyar Village - Kalibaru District who played a role in burning a motorbike at Ali's house, then MS (37) a resident of Kalibaru Manis Village-Kalibaru District, M (35) a resident of Kebunrejo Village-Kalibaru District, W (39) a villager Banyuanyar-Kalibaru District, then G (39) and S (51) who are residents of Kalibaru Manis Village-Kalibaru District.
"To account for their actions, the police arrested nine suspects with multiple layers of articles, namely Article 187 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 55, 56 of the Criminal Code and or Article 170 paragraph 1e of the Criminal Code and or Article 365 paragraph (2) of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 64, 65 of the Criminal Code ," he said.
The criminal threat for Article 187 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code is a maximum of 12 years in prison, the criminal threat of Article 170 paragraph 1e of the Criminal Code is a maximum of 7 years in prison and the criminal threat of Article 365 paragraph (2) of the Criminal Code is a maximum of 12 years in prison.
Previously, riots were carried out by a group of people who burned down several houses, two- and four-wheeled vehicles, and looted tens of millions of rupiah belonging to the residents of Dusun Baban Timur which occurred four times from July to August 4, 2022.
Based on police data, arson occurred in six different locations during July-August 2022, causing four houses to be damaged, a garage and a shop to be damaged, then three cars and 19 two-wheeled vehicles were burned to the ground.
