BPOM Finds Dangerous Cosmetic Products In Jayapura Papua

JAYAPURA - The National Agency for Drug and Food Control (BBPOM) in Jayapura, Papua, found 46 illegal cosmetics containing dangerous ingredients, counterfeit cosmetics and goods without a distribution permit. These illegal cosmetics were found in two weeks of unannounced inspections in four districts and cities in Bumi Cenderawasih.

Head of BBPOM in Jayapura Mojaza Sirait said the four areas namely Jayapura City, Yapen Islands, Nabire and Biak were carried out at markets and cosmetic stalls.

"In Jayapura City, 16 cosmetic facilities were inspected, but 8 of them were illegal with a loss of Rp. 25 million," he said as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, August 2.

According to Mojaza, in the Yapen Islands the number of cosmetic facilities inspected was 13 facilities, three of which were illegal with a loss value of IDR 7 million.

"Then in Nabire Regency, the number of facilities that we examined were 18 facilities, of which 14 facilities did not meet the provisions or were illegal with a loss value of Rp. 43 million," he said.

He explained that Biak Regency had the biggest loss, namely Rp. 70 million with 29 facilities being inspected, of which 21 facilities did not meet the requirements.

"Now we have secured all 46 cosmetic facilities and business actors are given administrative sanctions in the form of warnings and statements," he said.

His party will continue to reduce the level of circulation of illegal cosmetics and those containing hazardous ingredients with the aim of protecting public health from the consequences of using illegal cosmetics.
