Good News! The Number Of Foreign Tourists In July 2022 Rose Sharply Compared To Last Year

JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) released data, the number of foreign tourist arrivals (tourists) to Indonesia reached 345,440 visits. That is, there is a surge in June this year.

In detail, the number of foreign tourist arrivals soared in June 2022, namely 1,973.96 percent compared to June 2021 and up 62.69 percent compared to May 2022.

"So, this shows good news, seen from the graph that since April, May, June, foreign tourist visits have continued to show an increase in line with improvements in mobility and health care in Indonesia," said BPS Head Margo Yuwono during a press conference in Jakarta, Monday, August 1. quoted from Antara.

Cumulatively, the number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia through the main entrance from January to June 2022 reached 743,210 visits, an increase of 929.66 percent compared to the number of foreign tourists visiting in the same period last year.

Meanwhile, foreign tourist visits in June 2021 only reached 16,656 visits and in May 2022 as many as 212,332 foreign tourists.

This, continued Margo, is good news for Indonesia, considering that the tourism sector is a sector that affects other sectors.

"Because we all know that foreign tourist visits have a big impact on economists in Indonesia because almost all sectors receive the impact of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia," said Margo.

Margo said that when compared to the period before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, or in the January-June 2020 period, his condition had not fully recovered. In that period, the number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia reached 2,131,737 visits.

"So it's better than 2021 but hasn't recovered from 2020," said Margo.

When viewed from the entrance, he said, the biggest contribution was from Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali, with the number of visits reaching 181,545 visits. Meanwhile, from the entrance to Soekarno-Hatta Airport, foreign tourists visited 85,587 visits, and from Batam reached 39,649 visits.

When viewed from nationality, the highest number of foreign tourist visits in June 2022 came from Australia, namely 64,500 visits, an increase of 87.60 percent when compared to May 2022.

This happened due to the increase in arrivals from Ngurah Rai and Soekarno-Hatta Airports, the majority of which used a visit visa upon arrival.
