Circulating Video Of Repressive Members When Securing Demo, Police: Tendensius
JAKARTA - The National Police responded to videos on social media showing repressive actions by police officers while securing demonstrations on the Job Creation Law in various regions. The National Police said the video was distributed to discredit Polri.
"If the video is very tendentious about the Police, what does that mean we don't know," said Karo Penmas, Police Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Awi Setiyono, to reporters, Thursday, November 12.
A video showing the repressive actions of the National Police was uploaded to the Twitter account @KontraS. The video shows the police pushing, beating, and kicking the protesters of students and workers.
There is even one scene in the video that shows violence against a security guard. Even though in the video, the security officers are not related to anything.
Awi said that the video was only a cut of the scene that was put together in the video. Therefore, it gives the impression that the Police are committing violence.
"What is clear is that he cut off demonstration activities, which in the end discredited the Police because these were the repressive actions carried out by the Police during the demonstration," he continued.
In fact, according to Awi, when referring to the actual incident, the repressive actions of Polri members emerged because there was a trigger.
"Whereas the chronology is not like that. The fact that the incident was long, there were causes and consequences for example being repressive," he said.
However, Awi said that his party would also evaluate Polri members. The goal is that members can understand the limitations in security procedures. Demonstration security has also been regulated in Fixed Procedure (Protap) No. 1/2010.
"Of course, this is also an input for the police to be evaluated in the future, which security limits on SOPs must be properly understood by police colleagues in the field, do not let unwanted things happen," he said. Awi.
