LPSK Urges Brigadier J's Family To Apply For Protection If They Receive Threats
JAKARTA - The Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) appealed to the family of the late Brigadier J to apply for protection if they received threats or intimidation from any party.
"We open the opportunity for Joshua's family to apply if they feel there is a threat or need protection," said LPSK Chairman Hasto Atmojo Suroyo as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, July 29.
In the case of Brigadier J's death, Hasto said that LPSK was only able to communicate with the lawyers for the deceased's family. However, on the one hand, LPSK considers that the family lawyer of Brigadier J has a wrong perception of the credibility of the institution.
"At that time I saw on television saying that LPSK is under the police, when it comes to providing protection to the police, this is wrong," said Hasto.
He emphasized that LPSK is an independent state institution. Therefore, anyone can submit an application with a note that they must go through stages including assessment and investigation.
It should be remembered, said Hasto, that based on the mandate of the law, the task of LPSK is to provide protection services including assistance to witnesses and victims. The goal is that the protected can provide information correctly, safely, not threatened, and the judicial process runs according to the legal corridor.
In addition, LPSK also admitted that it was difficult to communicate with the family because there had been no response. In fact, the agency has sent a letter to Brigadier J's family through his family attorney.
"We also convey that LPSK is open to provide protection to Brigadier J's family because it is potentially threatened," he said.
