Central Jakarta DLH Calls Crowd In Upper Hamlet Impact Of Increase In Waste Volume
JAKARTA – Due to the crowds at the Dukuh Atas zebra crossing, and the crowds of visitors to Citayam Fashion Week (CFW), there has been an increase in the volume of waste. This was conveyed by the Head of the Central Jakarta Environmental Agency (LH), Edy Mulyanto.
"On average, the garbage can reach up to 1.5 tons a day. That's from the two locations (Tanah Abang and Menteng). Because the number of people is already a lot," said Head of the Central Jakarta Environment Agency Edy Mulyanto when confirmed by reporters, Thursday, July 28.
He explained that although the volume of waste experienced an increase in the Dukuh Atas area during the CFW, the number of violators of cleanliness began to decrease in the last two weeks.
"In the beginning, maybe because they didn't know, around 9 people could be involved in a garbage catching operation in a day. Now we have started to understand, there are about 5 people per day," he said.
The violators of littering at the site usually occur on working holidays. The reason is, before the holiday, many visitors come to the Dukuh Atas CFW area.
"This is most often found on weekends, because many of them are on vacation (to Dukuh Atas)," he said.
