PMK Daily Cases Decline, Khofifah Distributes 600,000 Vaccine Doses To All Regions In East Java

SURABAYA - A total of 600 thousand doses of Mouth and Nail Disease (PMK) vaccine have been distributed to 38 regencies/cities in East Java. The Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, asked all regions to speed up the PMK vaccination.

"We received 600 thousand doses of Phase II vaccine, and we have distributed it to 38 regencies/cities in East Java which will be used to expand vaccination and to re-vaccinate cows that have received the first dose," said Khofifah, in Surabaya, Tuesday, July 26.

Khofifah said the East Java Provincial Government is currently boosting PMK vaccinations for livestock to suppress cases of FMD spread. After the first phase, the provincial government is now focusing on the second phase of PMK vaccination.

Details of the allocation of the second phase of the vaccine in East Java are for re-vaccination of 380,100 doses, and the allocation for the expansion of the first vaccine in beef cattle as much as 219,900 doses. Meanwhile, the implementation of the second phase of vaccination began simultaneously in East Java, starting in Batu City on Monday, July 25, 2022.

"The first priority that must be vaccinated is breeding cattle, dairy cattle, beef cattle and buffalo, while for goats, sheep, pigs, vaccination will be carried out after the cattle and buffalo have been vaccinated 100 percent," he said.

The acceleration of PMK vaccination in East Java involved 2,450 animal health workers in East Java, namely 950 veterinarians and 1,500 veterinary paramedics. In addition, it also involved young doctors from various universities, as well as the Indonesian Veterinary Doctors Association (PDHI) as many as 350 veterinarians.

"With this number of human resources, East Java has 950 vaccinator teams capable of vaccinating an average of 12,500 to 15,000 individuals/day. So that a total of 600,000 doses of vaccine will be completed in 1.5 months. But we are recalculated for the acceleration option," he said.

According to Khofifah, FMD vaccination is quite good, because it can suppress the spread of FMD in livestock in East Java. If previously the daily cases of PMK in East Java reached 6,000 cases per day, now there are only 1,000 cases per day.

"We want to emphasize that we are synergistically serious in dealing with this FMD. The strategy we have done so far is mainly to promote vaccination of healthy livestock," he said.
