Triggered By Protests Over Meat Distribution, Residents Clash When Customs Burn Stones In Puncak Jaya, Papua, 7 People Get Arrows
JAYAPURA - There were clashes between residents with seven people reported injured. The clashes occurred after the payment of the customary fine for the murder case and continued with the traditional stone-burning event at Trikora Field, Mulia District, Puncak Jaya Regency, Papua.
The Puncak Jaya Police Chief, AKBP Kuswara, together with dozens of Puncak Jaya Police personnel, went directly to the location to secure as well as break up the attacks carried out by the community in the area where the stone-burning event was being held.
The attacks between community groups began when there were residents who were influenced by alcohol and then questioned the distribution of pork which was considered inappropriate. Seven people were injured by arrows.
"Currently, the seven victims of the attack have been evacuated to Mulia Hospital for first aid. Currently, Puncak Jaya Police personnel have sterilized the area where the incident occurred around Trikora Field, Mulia District," said the Puncak Jaya Police Chief, quoted from a written statement.
