South Kalimantan Police Investigate Hoax Rhoma Irama Sandals Missing At Banjarmasin Mosque
BANJARMASIN - The South Kalimantan Police investigated a hoax video on social media that said the sandals of singer and preacher Rhoma Irama were missing while delivering a Friday prayer sermon at the Sabilal Muhtadin Grand Mosque in Banjarmasin on Friday (15/7).
"Today, we have received the public's report, and then we will investigate the reported hoax," said Head of Sub-Directorate V Cyber Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation of the South Kalimantan Police Commissioner Ricky Boy Sialagan in Banjarmasin, reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 19.
In handling cases, his party prioritizes the principle of ultimum remedium, criminal law is used as a last resort in terms of law enforcement.
"In principle, we provide precise treatment to the community," he explained on behalf of the Director of the Special Crime Investigation Unit of the South Kalimantan Police, Kombes Suhasto.
Meanwhile, the Secretary of the Sabilal Grand Mosque Management Agency, Muhtadin Samsul Rani, together with eight other administrators when making a police report stated that the video containing false news that was widely circulated had defamed the reputation of the largest mosque in South Kalimantan.
"So we suspect that there are two violations, namely defamation and the ITE Law," he explained.
In its report, the Sabilal Muhtadin Great Mosque Management Agency included evidence of a 20-second hoax video.
Samsul Rani hopes that this incident will serve as a lesson for all parties not to arbitrarily create false information for any reason, especially with the excuse of joking.
The hoax video was spread on social media to coincide with the moment after "King of Dangdut" Rhoma Irama became a preacher for Friday prayers on July 15, 2022.
The video with a visual of the dome of the mosque was filled with voices claiming that the mosque committee informed that Rhoma Irama's sandals were missing and asked to be returned immediately.
