Now There Are 526 Cattle Infected With FMD In Bali, The Most In Buleleng

DENPASAR - Regional Secretary of Bali Province, Dewa Made Indra, said that up to now there has been 526 head of cattle infected with Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in 7 regencies/cities on the island of Bali. However, some of the cows have been subject to conditional slaughter.

"The latest data on the FMD case, we have 526 (cows) of that number already infected in 7 districts and cities. And now conditional cuts have been made according to the direction of the Central Government to cut off the transmission of the FMD virus", said Made Indra when met at the Bali Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) office, Monday, July 18.

Of the 526 cows, 224 cows have not been subjected to conditional slaughter. The number is in Buleleng Regency, Bali, because other infected cows in other areas have been subject to conditional slaughter.

"What is still left as of yesterday are 224 cows that have not been subjected to conditional slaughter, all of which are located in Buleleng. Today conditional slaughter has begun and yesterday there were 16, today will also be a conditional slaughter, hopefully in the next day others", said Made Indra.

"If other districts have finished, it is clear and in the sense that every time there is a case of FMD in cattle, conditional slaughter has been carried out. Thus, if the animal carrying the virus itself has been slaughtered according to health protocols, the virus will not spread", he continued.

He emphasized that the 526 cows will be compensated by the Bali provincial government, which has not yet been prepared because the regulations for compensation are still in process.

"As for the compensation, what has been done is conditional slaughter, with us helping to find cattle slaughterers (who) can buy at good prices. We have also appealed to slaughterhouses not to play with prices during difficult situations like this", he explained.

"For the time being, there has not been (compensation). Because the regulation regarding the determination of compensation and assistance has not been completed. If the budget from the center is available from the regions, the problem is the regulation has not been completed", he said.

FMD cases are said to be the most common in Buleleng Regency, Bali. The second is in Karangasem Regency, Bali. "While the largest number is in Buleleng and the second is in Karangasem, and other regencies all cattle have been subject to conditional slaughter. There are no more", he said.
