There Is A 2,260 MW Karangandri Cilacap PLTU, PLN Guarantees Electricity Supply In Central Java
JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) is ready to support industrial growth in Central Java by providing reliable electricity supply. The supply comes from the Karangkandri Cilacap Steam Power Plant (PLTU) with a total capacity of 2,260 megawatts (MW).
Currently, the backup power supply in Central Java is safe. With a capable power of 7,042 MW, and the highest peak load in 2022 at 4,851 MW, it means that there is still a power reserve of around 30 percent to support industrial needs in Central Java.
Deputy Regent of Cilacap, Syamsul Auliya Rachman said as the largest district in Central Java, Cilacap has several industries such as petroleum, factories, fisheries, agriculture, plantations, to port services.
“The biggest burden is used for the Cement Plant and Pertamina. For this reason, electricity plays an important role for the existence of the industry," he said in a statement to the media, Sunday, July 17.
Director General of Electricity Rida Mulyana said that PLN had succeeded in maintaining the availability of electricity and coal for the public interest, including at PLTU Karangkandri.
"We hope that we will continue to carry out government programs, continue to provide reliable, competitive and efficient electricity, by implementing the digitization of power plants so as to reduce plant operational costs," said Rida.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Commission VII DPR RI, Sugeng Suparwanto, during the working visit requested that the PLTU Karangkandari be managed properly and have reliable electrical system reliability.
"The Karangkandri PLTU in this case is very strategic in its position. PLN must ensure good governance, and have a reliable electricity system," concluded Sugeng.
PLN's Java, Madura and Bali Regional Business Director, Haryanto WS, revealed that the existence of the Karangkandri PLTU provides benefits for increasing the economy in Central Java. The reason is that the electricity from the plant is a supporter of industrial development in the Central Java region.
"The Karangandri PLTU has an important role in the Jamali system's electricity system, especially in the Central Java region," he said.
PLTU Karangkandri was built in 2003 and has several units, namely units I and II with a capacity of 600 MW, unit III with a capacity of 660 MW and an expansion unit with a capacity of 1,000 MW. The power plant is operated by PT Sumber Segara Primadaya, a joint venture of PT Sumberenergi Sakti Prima and PLN's subsidiary, PT Pembangkit Jawa Bali.
The plant uses Subcritical Boiler technology to Ultra Supercritical Boiler, so that the handling of Co2 emissions from the combustion of the PLTU is very good.
