Komnas HAM Prioritizes Impartial Principles In Investigating The Death Of Brigadier J

JAKARTA - The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) has confirmed that it will prioritize the principle of impartiality in thoroughly investigating the case of Brigadier J's death during a shootout between police officers.

"As a human rights institution, Komnas HAM is strongly bound by the principle of impartiality," said Komnas HAM chairman Ahmad Taufan Damanik as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, July 15.

Moreover, he said, currently Komnas HAM is being assessed by the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI), a representative body of national human rights institutions from all over the world.

Therefore, Komnas HAM ensures that it prioritizes the principle of impartiality in helping the police uncover the case of Brigadier J's death which occurred at the official house of the Head of the Propam Division (Kadiv) of the National Police Inspector General Ferdy Sambo.

"The importance of maintaining impartiality, independence and integrity is not solely in the interests of Komnas HAM, but also in the interests of the nation and state," he said.

As is known, the National Police involved Komnas HAM and the National Police Commission (Kompolnas) in investigating the case of a shootout between members of the police.

Both the National Police and the National Human Rights Commission will each work according to their duties, authorities and functions in accordance with the mandate of the law.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief of the National Police, Komjen Gatot Eddy Pramono, said that the National Police, especially the team formed by the National Police Chief, would work in a professional, transparent and accountable manner.

The police, he continued, have also taken a number of steps to deepen them to complete the data on the crime scene.

In addition, the police, especially the forensic team, have also conducted forensic laboratory examinations, forensic medicine, including the examination of witnesses by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police.

"Everything is seen based on the facts," said Gatot.

He appealed to the public to be patient while waiting for an examination by the police and the Komnas HAM team.
