PMK Task Force: 376,237 Livestock Exposed, 458,477 Cattle Vaccinated, Expanded To 22 Provinces

JAKARTA - The Task Force (Satgas) for Handling Mouth and Nail Diseases (PMK) reported that 458,477 cows had received the PMK vaccine as of Thursday at 12.00 WIB.

Based on the data received, to date the only livestock that have received the PMK vaccination are cows, although the transmission has spread to 254 districts/cities in 22 provinces throughout Indonesia.

The PMK Task Force detailed that there were 376,237 livestock that were declared to have contracted FMD. With 363,904 of them are cattle, 8,584 buffalo, 1,221 sheep, 2,481 goats, 47 pigs and zero deer.

234,295 farm animals were also declared to have not recovered from PMK. The details are 227,724 cows, 4,926 buffalo, 654 sheep, 944 goats, 47 pigs and zero for deer.

Meanwhile, 2,279 tails have been declared dead and 4,777 animals have been slaughtered.

Meanwhile, there are 134,886 cattle that have recovered. Where the most healing occurred in 129,275 cows, 3,582 buffalo, 1,477 goats, 552 sheep and zero tails for deer and pigs, respectively.

Based on the Antara report, FMD was detected for the first time in the country in East Java Province on May 5, 2022. Until now East Java is still the province with livestock that have not recovered and have the most deaths.

Then West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) became the province with the most cases of recovery.

The Task Force advises farmers to limit animal movement, control traffic and carry out surveillance, prohibit the entry of livestock from other areas, strict quarantine, good maintenance management, improve sanitation, regularly disinfect cages and surrounding areas, in order to prevent outbreaks of FMD from spreading.

Then responding to the availability of vaccines for animals affected by FMD, Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo emphasized that the addition of vaccines in a number of areas will be carried out gradually.

"The addition of vaccines is of course gradual. Because buying PMK vaccines can't be arbitrary, there must be indicators," said Syahrul.
