Twitter Won't Cut Down Employees, Like Elon Musk Alleges

JAKARTA - Twitter Inc has no intention of laying off employees across the company but may continue to restructure the business. The statement came from the US social media company on Wednesday, July 13.

The filing comes a day after Twitter sued Tesla Inc Chief Executive Elon Musk for violating a $44 billion deal to buy the company. Twitter is asking a Delaware court to order the world's richest person to complete the merger at the $54.20 per share price it agreed to with Twitter.

Twitter also said last Wednesday that it had sent Musk a formal request to approve two customized employee retention programs in June, but he had not yet given his approval.

Musk himself did not immediately respond to a request for comment when contacted by Reuters, via Tesla. Previously, Musk objected to going ahead with the Twitter acquisition because the company was reluctant to reveal the true number of bot and spam accounts. Musk also objected to Twitter reducing its employees massively.

Twitter employees have also expressed widespread concern about Musk's takeover of the company due to his preference for cutting staff and other costs, reducing content moderation, and limiting remote work.

In May, Twitter said it would pause hiring and review all existing job offers to determine if any "should be recalled."
