Police Present Witness Victims Of Child Economic Exploitation At SPI School In Batu City

BATU CITY - The East Java Regional Police (Polda) presented two victim witnesses when conducting a crime scene (TKP) case of alleged economic exploitation of children at the Indonesian Good Morning School (SPI) Batu City.

The Head of Public Relations of the East Java Police, Kombes Dirmanto, said that the two victim witnesses, a man and a woman, who were presented at the crime scene with the initials OL and WY, were accompanied by their attorneys.

"We present two victim witnesses on behalf of OL and WY. We also present lawyers for the victim and the reported party," said Dirmanto, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, July 13.

Dirmanto explained that the TKP processing process had been carried out at three points in the Batu City SPI area. The crime scene processing was carried out by the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimum) and the East Java Police inafis team and assisted by the Batu Police.

According to him, a number of points carried out by the crime scene are places suspected of being locations for the economic exploitation of the child. These places are business units within the Batu City SPI area.

For information, SPI Batu City is also equipped with hotels, educational facilities, restaurants and cafes and others. Apart from being a high school, SPI Batu City also has a number of supporting facilities for tourism activities.

“The place where the TKP is being investigated is the place that is suspected to be the location of the economic exploitation. There are already three points where the crime scene is being investigated. It will be done in a coherent manner," he said.

Meanwhile, the attorney for the victim Kayat Hariyanto said that a number of victims of the economic exploitation of children stated that when they worked they were given salaries in the amount of Rp. 100,000 to Rp. 200 per month.

"During the investigation at the East Java Regional Police, the first graders of high school were paid Rp. 100,000 per month. Then the second and third grades rose to Rp. 200,000 per month, however, the money was not given and they were said to be in savings," he said.

In addition, the Batu City SPI students who reported cases of economic exploitation of children did not get a work agreement. A number of these students, must serve the guests who come to the area of SPI Batu City.

"There is no agreement there. The work varies. For example, when there are many guests in this place, students are asked to serve these guests," he said.

The case of economic exploitation of children in the Batu City SPI was first handled by the Bali Police which was then transferred to the East Java Police Ditreskrimum on 26 April 2022. The party reported in this case is the owner of the Batu City SPI, with the initials JE.

JE himself is currently undergoing detention related to a case of alleged sexual violence at the Malang Class IA Penitentiary (Lapas), in Malang City, East Java, since July 11, 2022.

The plan is that JE will again undergo a trial at the Malang Class IA District Court (PN Malang) on Wednesday (20/7) with the agenda of reading the demands.
