Asks Political Parties To Prepare Legislative Legislation As Early As Possible, DIY KPU Wants Instant Legislative Candidates

JAKARTA - The General Election Commission of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (KPU DIY) is encouraging political parties (parpol) to prepare for the 2024 General Election (Pemilu).

Head of the Division of Socialization, Voter Education, Community Participation, and Human Resources of the DIY KPU, Ahmad Shidqi, said that political parties can prepare early candidates or cadres who will advance as legislative candidates (caleg).

"It is important for political parties (political parties) to prepare legislative candidates (candidates) from now on so that they do not produce instant legislative candidates," said Ahmad in Yogyakarta, quoted from Antara, Monday, July 4.

Shidqi realized that the preparation of legislative candidates was entirely a domestic matter for political parties. However, according to him, the selection process until the determination of prospective candidates needs to be carried out in advance.

So, he continued, political parties are able to produce qualified people's representatives for the community.

"We want to give the quality of democracy to the people so that later the output will be people's representatives who can really be expected by the people," he added.

In addition, Shidqi also asked political parties that already have seats in parliament as well as those that are new to the 2024 election to immediately register as election participants through the Political Party Information System (Sipol), which has been open since June 24, 2022.

"Sipol has been opened by the KPU so that political parties can input data related to the management to the office address," he said.

A number of new political parties, he continued, have held hearings and consulted the DIY KPU, such as the Ummat Party, the Labor Party, and the Pelita Party.

Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the DIY Ummat Party DPW Dwi Kuswantoro admitted that he had opened the registration for legislative candidates since December 2021.

Although the number of registrants has not been maximized, according to Dwi, his party has pocketed temporary names that are being considered as candidates for legislative candidates both in the electoral districts (dapil) at the provincial level and at the district/city level in DIY.

As a new party, he realized that the preparation stages, including the selection of candidates, needed to be carried out earlier.

"We are well aware that we are a new party. We want to present new faces in the political contest, meaning those who have competence, have the capacity, in fact we are very concerned about young people," said Dwi.
