Vice President Ma'ruf Amin Warns To NTB Agricultural Officers, Don't Let FMD Infected Cows Become Sacrifice

JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin asked agricultural officials and local governments to be careful so that cows infected with foot and mouth disease (PMK) cannot be sent to other areas as sacrificial animals.

"The officers must pay attention, don't let sick cows during this sacrificial season be distributed to other areas," said the Vice President after having a dialogue with members of the Livestock Farmers Group (KTT) Reyan Baru, Gerung sub-district, West Lombok district, West Nusa Tenggara. At the Reyan Baru Summit, there were 327 cows infected with FMD, but all of them were declared cured.

"From the explanation I got, around 327 cows here turned out to be all affected, 100 percent got PMK, and after that there was an effort from the breeders and administrators assisted by the Ministry of Agriculture to treat the PMK disease for 14 days, it turns out that now it's 100 percent cured. all. Alhamdulillah thanks to the efforts and persistence of the breeders, "said the Vice President.

The vice president asked that cattle infected with FMD could not be distributed to other areas as sacrificial animals.

"There are rules for animals that may be sacrificed. If in that area there are no cows that can be sacrificed, you can use other animals, for example goats or sheep, just healthy ones, we hope so. I thank all the officers who are quick to handle PMK this," said the vice president.

The vice president said the government was concerned about the PMK outbreak in a number of areas.

"The government is taking the first step to vaccinate in various regions to prevent the spread of PMK disease. So healthy cows are vaccinated so that they have immunity and those who are affected, like Kampung Reyan Baru, continue to receive intensive treatment, that's what the government has done," said the vice president.

For information, the development of PMK as of 28 June 2022 nationally, as many as 221 regencies/cities in 19 provinces have indicated that there are livestock infected with FMD, with 283,606 sick cattle, 91,555 cured cattle, 2,689 conditional slaughters and 1,701 dead. tail.

NTB Province is the second most affected area after FMD after East Java Province where livestock infected with FMD are 115,478 heads and the recovery rate is 21,096 heads or 18.2 percent. However, NTB has a high cure rate, where livestock infected with FMD are 45,738 heads and a cure rate of 24,284 heads or 53 percent. For West Lombok Regency itself, data as of June 28, 2022 states the number of livestock affected by FMD is 12,593 tails, and the recovery rate reaches 6,441 heads.

Regarding the vaccine to prevent FMD, 2,400 doses have arrived in the Province of NTB which will then be distributed in the districts where the livestock is most affected by FMD, namely the districts on the island of Lombok.
