There Is A Potential For Oil And Gas Findings In Aceh's Andaman II Block, Head Of SKK Migas: Hopefully It Can Restart The Arun Refinery
JAKARTA - The Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) revealed that there are potential interesting oil and gas discoveries in the Andaman II Block.
This was known after Premier Oil as the operator drilled one well in the oil and gas Working Area.
Head of SKK Migas Dwi Soetjipto said the discovery of oil and gas potential in the Andaman Block was quite interesting because the British company had only drilled for one structure. While the Andaman II Block itself has 10 structures.
"This is interesting, why? BP is serious about entering Andaman II, BP as a big player," he told the media, Tuesday, June 28.
Dwi hopes that with the commencement of production of the Andaman II Block, which is located in Aceh waters, the facilities at the Arun LNG Plant can fully operate again, especially after the last few years have not been maximized.
Meanwhile, most of the facilities in Arun itself are not operating because the gas supply in the vicinity has dwindled.
So that the discovery of gas sources in the Aceh region is expected to revive these facilities.
"Hopefully, if it's true that there is a giant discovery, we have the infrastructure ready there, hopefully we can turn on the Arun (refinery) again," he said.
For information, Premier Oil itself has drilled the Timpan-1 exploration well on Tuesday, May 10, 2022.
The exploration well is located in the Andaman II Working Area (WK), 150 km north of Lhokseumawe City, with a seawater depth of 4,236 ft.
This exploration drilling is intended to test and evaluate the potential gas content contained in the Timpan structure located in the western part of the Andaman II CA. The Timpan-1 well itself was drilled vertically using the Drill Ship West Capella drilling rig.
