33,162 Families In Tangerang Regency Don't Have Healthy Toilets, Still Defeating In Gardens Or Rivers
TANGERANG - Data from the Health Office shows that 33,162 families out of a total of 722,092 families in the Tangerang Regency, Banten Province, do not yet have healthy latrines, effective faecal disposal facilities to break the chain of disease transmission.
Head of Public Health, Tangerang District Health Office, dr. Indri said that families who do not have healthy latrines are spread out in 21 villages/kelurahan out of a total of 246 villages and 28 sub-districts in 29 sub-districts in Tangerang Regency.
According to him, residents who do not have healthy latrines generally still defecate using inappropriate toilets such as cemplung and plengsengan toilets in rivers or gardens.
"Of course this will have an impact on the health conditions of the surrounding community. So there must also be awareness from the community (to build healthy latrines)," he said in Tangerang as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, June 28.
He said that this year's Health Office did not have a budget allocation to help build healthy latrines for the community.
"However, from the Tangerang Regency Government there is currently a sanitation development program, and we are now only helping to educate the public," he said.
