Government Builds National Data Centers In 4 Points Of Indonesian Territory, One Of Which Is Financed By Korea

JAKARTA - The government is currently building National Data Centers through the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology in four locations throughout Indonesia.

The locations in question are the Deltamas Industrial Estate (Jabodetabek), Nongsa Digital Park Batam, the State Capital in East Kalimantan and Labuan Bajo, West Nusa Tenggara.

Reportedly, the construction of the National Data Center will be financed by the government of the Republic of Korea. According to the Minister of Communications and Informatics, Johnny G Plate, the financing documents are being discussed between the Ministry of Finance and the EDCF.

Johnny said that the existence of the National Data Center which is being built is expected to encourage the growth of data center investment in Indonesia.

"So the potential for investment and data consumption in Indonesia is very large. This is also a projection of the potential of Indonesia's digital economy which is growing rapidly, as is the prognosis", said the Minister of Communication and Information, as reported by Antara.

Johnny said that his party hopes that the consumption of per capita data in Indonesia will continue to increase with the government building a data center, which will give impetus to the private sector as well as immediately build a data center.

​The existence of data is strategic. For this reason, the government considers the need for more adequate management and infrastructure.

Nationally, people's data consumption is 1 watt per capita or equivalent to 270-300 megawatts. If consumption increases to 10 watts per capita, it will take about 2.7 gigawatts of electricity.

According to Johnny, the figure of 10 watts per capita is not high because Singapore currently consumes 100 watts of data per capita. Later, the growth of data consumption will affect the growth of the digital economy and data center investment in Indonesia.
