Judge Frees Defendant Controlling 92 Kilograms Of Shabu
BANDARLAMPUNG - Chairman of the Panel of Judges Joni Butar Butar in the trial at the Class IA Tanjungkarang District Court, Bandarlampung, acquitted M Sulton, the accused controlling the circulation of 92 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine.
"Declaring the defendant M Sulton not guilty and acquitting the defendant from all charges," he said when reading the verdict against the defendant through an online trial, reported by Antara, Tuesday, June 21.
The verdict is completely different from the prosecutor's demands, which previously asked the Panel of Judges to sentence the defendant to death.
The consideration for the acquittal was, among other things, because the Public Prosecutor (JPU) Roosman Yusa could not show some convincing evidence of the defendant's actions during the trial.
Apart from that, there were several pieces of evidence that were also presented by the prosecutor, but none of them led to the defendant's actions.
CassationProsecutor Roosman Yusa after listening to the reading of the verdict by Judge Joni Butar Butar then immediately filed an appeal in the case.
"We will proceed to the appeal level," he said.
Two defendants who acted as couriers for the distribution of 92 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine were sentenced to death by Chief Justice Joni Butar Butar, Friday (27/5).
Previously, Prosecutor Roosman Yusa demanded the defendant M Sulton with the death penalty. Not only the defendants, two co-defendants from East Java named M Razif Hazif (24) and Nanang Zakaria (29) were also charged with life sentences.
The defendants M Razif Hazif and Nanang had been previously sentenced by Judge Joni Butar Butar to the death penalty.
The actions of the three defendants began when Defendant M Sulton, who is a prison inmate, received orders to control the distribution of large quantities of crystal methamphetamine by a person with the initials J who is a fugitive or on the wanted list (DPO).
In February 2021, Sulton ordered Nanang and the perpetrator with the initials S (DPO) to look for a boarding house. Then Nanang and S were ordered to take crystal methamphetamine at Tanjung Balai. The drugs were then packaged at the boarding house into four boxes.
In the delivery, the defendant Nanang received a salary of Rp. 600 million by the defendant M Sulton.
