BMKG Predicts High Waves To Hit 6 Points In NTT Waters
KUPANG - High waves are likely to hit six water points in East Nusa Tenggara over the next three days.
The prediction is based on the latest report from the Tenau-Kupang Maritime Meteorological Station, Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).
"Sea waves with a height ranging from 2.5-4 meters are likely to occur on June 22-24, 2022, so boat operators and fishermen need to be wary of," said Head of the Tenau-Kupang Maritime Meteorological Station Syaeful Hadi in a statement, Tuesday, June 21.
He said this was related to the weather forecast in the waters of NTT for the next three days.
The six points of marine waters in NTT that are likely to be hit by high waves are the western part of the Sumba Strait, the northern part of the Sawu Sea, the southern part of the Savu Sea, the southern Indian Ocean of Sumba-Sabu, the southern Indian Ocean of Kupang-Rote, and the southern waters of Kupang-Rote.
The potential for high waves, he said, needs to be watched out for because it poses a high risk to ferries, barges and fishing boats.
Ship operators and fishermen, need to avoid the threat of high waves when sailing through these water points.
Meanwhile, the synoptic conditions show that generally blowing from the East to the Southeast at a speed of 1-6 on the Beaufort Scale.
Syaeful Hadi appealed to ship operators and fishermen to continue to follow the development of weather information in the sea waters of NTT so that they can sail safely and smoothly.
