This Entrepreneur Assesses Aceh As A Strategic Entrance For Global Trade

JAKARTA - A businessman from Aceh who is also a candidate for Chair of the Aceh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Ismail Rasyid assesses that Aceh's location at the entrance to the Malacca Strait is very strategic for global trade, plus Tanah Rencong has abundant natural resources.

"Aceh's strategic location means we need to build connectivity in the transportation sector, so that later it will become a link for regional, national and international economic growth," he said during a gathering with media leaders in Aceh Besar, quoted from Antara, Monday, June 20.

Ismail Rasyid said the potential of Aceh's natural resources must be put to good use. Through the Aceh Chamber of Commerce, he wants to contribute a lot to the industry in the area known as the Veranda of Mecca.

In addition to having a mission to build transportation sector connectivity as a liaison for national and international economic growth, the CEO of Trans Continent is also determined to develop a creative economy in the form of cross-sectoral combinations to increase product added value and create jobs.

He is also ready to synergize with various parties to achieve an independent Aceh economic development in order to support the national economic recovery. Furthermore, it will optimize the downstreaming of agricultural commodities, plantations, livestock, capture fisheries, and aquaculture.

"When the fishermen catch a lot or the production is abundant, then the selling value is low, some even rot. For that, we need a cooling machine and if the price increases again then the production is re-marketed," he said.

Then Ismail Rasyid said that many Aceh products and commodities have export potential, so connectivity is needed. "We have hope that we can revive Aceh's trade as it was in the past, and Kadin is a platform for doing so," said Ismail Rasyid.

On the other hand, he also initiated the Santripreneur and Yatimpreneur Program to encourage the progress of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Aceh, which are export-oriented and based on the potential of regional superior commodities.

According to the alumni of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Syiah Kuala University, students also need to be equipped or trained in entrepreneurship in the hope that in the future the alumni will be more independent.

"This Santripreneur and Yatimpreneur program is my priority going forward and I feel compelled to do it, with the hope that in the end, Aceh's economy can grow well and this region is more developed," he said.

Ismail Rasyid emphasized that he was elected or not to lead the Aceh Chamber of Commerce for the 2022-2027 period, the Santripreneur and Yatimpreneur Program would still be carried out.
