Surabaya Satpol PP Asked To Bring Order To Noise Night Entertainment Places

JAKARTA – A number of entertainment venues in the city of Surabaya received special attention by the government. In particular, Commission A for Law and Government of the Surabaya City DPRD asked the local Satpol PP to regulate nightlife venues because they were considered disturbing to residents.

"We hope that in the future entertainment entrepreneurs will pay attention to these things. Trying is okay but don't disturb it," said member of Commission A of the Surabaya DPRD, Josiah Michael, quoting Antara, Sunday, June 19.

According to Josiah, night entertainment venues intersect with Regional Regulation Number 2 of 2014 concerning the Implementation of Public Order and Public Order as amended to Regional Regulation Number 2 of 2020.

Josiah also appreciated the steps taken by the Surabaya Satpol PP to seal one of the night entertainment venues, namely the Whisper Lounge and Restaurant on Jalan Mayjen Sungkono, Surabaya, on Sunday morning for violating the rules by using loud noises that disturbed the peace of the local residents.

The sealing of the Whisper discotheque was the result of a demonstration carried out by residents of RW 2 Dukuh Pakis Surabaya on Saturday, June 18, night. Residents flocked to Whisper while unfurling banners that read "Seal Whisper", "Close Whisper", "Do Not Disturb Residents' Comfort", and "Stop Whisper Noise".

Residents claimed to be disturbed by the loud sound of music from Whisper, which occurred from 20.00 WIB to 03.00 WIB.

"Coincidentally, yesterday (Saturday, June 18) night, I had a training activity for members of the legislature at the Faifield hotel which is located across from Whisper. I was staying in a room on the 9th floor and from inside my room I heard the sound of 'house music' which was quite loud, " he said.

Initially, Josiah thought that the sound came from the hotel environment where he was staying, but it turned out that after checking it was from Wishper's direction. This complaint was also conveyed by several other hotel guests.

"I think it's quite disturbing even though the hotel is opposite and each room is quite soundproof," said Josiah.

For this reason, he suggested that Wishper should not operate until it can improve the sound suppression system, and must be checked by the relevant agencies regarding the permit.
