Sleman Regency Government Prepares Towards Endemic When Trends In COVID-19 Cases In Indonesia Experiencing An Increase

JAKARTA - The trend of COVID-19 cases in Indonesia has increased in recent weeks. The current increase in cases is still below the WHO indicator so the situation is still not dangerous.

However, the government is asked to issue policies with caution. The reason is, that COVID-19 still needs to be watched out for.

When the trend of cases in the country is rising, the Sleman Regency Government is actually preparing to go through a transition from the pandemic period to the COVID-19 endemic.

This step was taken after the number of cases of Coronavirus transmission in the Sleman area tended to decrease.

"Currently, by the development of the COVID-19 case in Sleman, we are starting to prepare for a pandemic leading to a COVID-19 endemic", said Head of the Sleman District Health Office, Cahya Purnama, as reported by Antara, Saturday, June 11.

The policy, according to him, was implemented not only because the graphic factor in the number of cases of COVID-19 transmission continued to decline. But it is also based on the fact that vaccination coverage is quite high, and Sleman has entered the area of the Level 1 Community Activity Restriction (PPKM) implementation.

He said the Health Office continued to monitor the rate of disease transmission, the cure rate and patient mortality rate, and the occupancy rate of patient beds in hospitals.

"Currently, the rate of case transmission in Sleman Regency is at 1.25 and 0.72 for the positivity rate. These numbers are very low because they are below 5", he said.

He added, that the death rate due to COVID-19 was already at 0.08 and the occupancy rate of treatment beds for patients with Corona virus infection had fallen to 0.39 percent in Sleman.

"The ICU occupancy at the referral hospital as of May 30 was only occupied by two patients or five percent. While the BOR was filled with 14 percent of the total available beds of 568 beds", he said.

He said that during the transition to endemic, people are advised to continue to obey health protocols and implement a clean and healthy lifestyle (PHBS).

"Then it is accompanied by a happy life, diligently exercising, and taking multi-vitamins, and following booster vaccinations", he said.
